Het komt voor in de blindedarm en dikke darm van schapen, geiten, runderen en andere herkauwers in alle delen van de wereld, maar is relatief ongevaarlijk. Klinische ziekten kunnen echter ook worden aangetroffen bij schapen en runderen. Er kan een zware infectie optreden bij zeer jonge dieren. De ge\u00efnfecteerde gastheren kunnen lijden aan bloederige colitis en difterieke caecitis, wat ulceratieve en necrotische laesies op het slijmvlies kan veroorzaken. Bij dieren met een hoge wormlast kunnen ernstige bloedarmoede, uitdroging en geelzucht leiden tot de dood van de dieren.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<div id=\"accordion-2485288679\" class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t<a id=\"accordion-2485288679-label\" class=\"accordion-title plain\" href=\"#accordion-item-parascaris-equorum-(90-x-100-\u00b5m)\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-2485288679-content\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"toggle\" aria-label=\"Toggle\"><i class=\"icon-angle-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/button>\n\t\t\t<span>Parascaris equorum (90 x 100 \u00b5m)<\/span>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-2485288679-content\" class=\"accordion-inner\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-2485288679-label\">\n\t\t\t\n<p>Ascaride-infectie bij paarden kan verstoppingen in de dunne darm veroorzaken. Blootstelling aan <em>Parascaris<\/em> spp. komt wereldwijd veel voor. De meest pathogene en meest voorkomende lintwormsoort bij paarden is <em>Anoplocephala perfoliata<\/em>. Deze kan ernstige schade aan het epitheelweefsel veroorzaken op de voorkeursplaats bij de ileocaecale verbinding en aangrenzende dunne en dikke darmsegmenten. De volwassen parasieten leven in de pens (maag) en de onvolwassen larven leven in de dunne darm.<\/p>\n<p>Klinische ziekte wordt veroorzaakt door darmschade veroorzaakt door enorme aantallen larven in de darm.
